A Big Warm Welcome (to both of us)

Hello BLOG World! I'm prepped and ready to take you on an epic adventure! I’ll be your tour guide, but first, allow me to introduce myself and tell you why I’m here— I’m Shelby Balentine. My guess is if you’re reading my first post, you probably already know that I’m 22 years old, a recent college graduate and I enjoy the little things in life (mostly good food and naps).

So you may be wondering why in the world am I starting a blog?

Well I have answers!!!

First off:

I like to think of this blog as a public diary— I have a less than average... or just flat out bad memory and I want to have something to look back on where I can remember my experiences/feelings at different times in my life.

“So why don’t you just get a pen and a notebook?”

Well, it's simple. I’ve tried that and I wasn’t very consistent in it + I love technology and social media and I’m always on my phone or computer so I figured why not post online (plus I can add pictures, videos, and all the cool things!)

Secondly:

I want to be able to share my life with people from home and college in this post grad/ unemployed (for now) life of mine. Now that I am 3 months removed from the best University in the entire world (ROLL TIDE) I have more time on my hands than ever before in my life. No school + no internship + a part time job = lots of time to do all the things. Since I’m in my early 20’s, I am starting to notice that this is the time when all of my friends are being scattered in many different cities and states (even countries). I hope that through this online cloud of ideas, friends from my childhood and college life will have the opportunity to keep up with me... if they so choose.

Lastly:

My writing is... good? (At least that’s what I’ve been told by teachers and professors growing up) BUT I know it isn’t perfect. I definitely see room for improvement every time I write, but how can you get better if you don’t work on it. Therefor I’m taking this whole blogging thing as a personal challenge. Many of the jobs I’ve shown interest in have asked for a link to my blog and/or writing samples and I just go into panic mode because I don’t know what to send them...

With that being said, this is a reflection of my life, thoughts and experiences. I hope to be as transparent and relatable as possible while also expanding and perfecting my writing. I hope that if you stick with me, eventually you will find this space helpful and maybe even learn a thing or two!

Anyways, I want to keep this first one short and sweet. Thanks for hanging out for my FIRST BLOG POST EVER (wuuuut?). I have some great ideas and amazing content coming soon so please come back and visit again! Until then....
